Another rant! I gotta talk about my bloody music teacher now. Alright, the class is called Folk and Traditional Music of the Western Continents. Note the Folk and Traditional bit as well as the Western bit. Now, halfway through the sememster, what do you think we've covered? The Middle East and Asia. Don't know about you, but to me, that ain't the west. Now, we're finally moving on to Europe. The reason I took the daam class in the first place. What does my teacher say? He decided that we wouldn't do European folk music because it was "no longer relevent" (wth?) and we would instead do classical music because "for some of these people, this may be their only music class". Right. Did I miss the part where this class stopped being FOLK and TRADITIONAL Music of the WESTERN Continents? And here's a thought. Ever think that maybe these people taking only this class are avoiding that boring classical crap? I talked him into doing some folk music (grrr) but it's the principle of the daamed thing! I wouldn't be so upset if *maybe* I *enjoyed* classical music (and don't get me wrong, I love Japanese music, but really, we offer an Asian Music class) or if I even liked this professor. He's slightly chauvinistic, slightly xenophobic, and very arrogant. He makes a huge deal out of the stuff that he's done and the things he's written and takes way too much time overpronouncing things. I think he's the only person in the world who says Innnndia. So, to sum it up, my prof's a pompous yet bearable air head. Sigh.
