Sep. 15th, 2002 08:36 pmA busy day today. This weekend is Free Spirit weekend in Cleveland, which means that lots of things are free or remarkably cheap. So we went first to the Natural History Museum, then to the Art Museum. My sister had classwork for the Art Museum, and I had a field report to do for the Natural History Museum. Gah. I do kind of like the Natural History Museum... I just would have rather that I didn't have to take notes on a dozen exhibits. My sister had to write down how six different paintings made her feel. Bleh. After that, we went to Severence Hall to catch a short program from the Cleveland Orchestra. I'd never been in the hall before, and it was just gorgeous. The music, on the other hand, kind of bored me. The second piece was very long and rather dull. The third piece was much better, but after sitting through the second piece, well...
At any rate, a lot of reviews to catch up on. I've read two books recently, That Takes Ovaries! and Ancient Legends of Ireland, the latter by Lady Wilde, Oscar Wilde's mother. That Takes Ovaries! I just loved. The stories in it were great, and most of them were really inspiring. As for Ancient Legends of Ireland, well, I always love folktales, legends, and myths. I was only dissappointed that the book was so short.
I've also watched two concert DVDs recently, Queen: We will Rock You and Sarah Brightman: La Luna. Loved them both, though I think Sarah Brightman might need to fire one of her stylists. Her clothes were always a mix of the kick ass (leather corset, silver Wondery Woman-like bracelets) and the truly bizarre (a sheer, hooped ball skirt, gold paint all over her hands). But she sang beautifully.
And another thing... When we were at church today, a petition was being passed around, proposing an ammendment to keep "under God" in the Pledge and "In God we trust" on the coins. I personally disagree with that position, and I won't get into why. Anyone who agrees with me will know why I think so, and anyone who disagrees with me is unlikely to be convinced. Besides, I'm cynical about the effect petitions have, and I really don't think those phrases are in any sort of danger anyways. At any rate, I declined to sign the petition. In other words, I stood up to my mother regarding one of my politcal beliefs, instead of just biting my tongue. I stuttered, and I just said that I disagreed with the petition, but I still did it, and I'm proud of myself. She called me a hypocrite, but I think that she either doesn't understand my position (possible) or she doesn't know what being a hypocrite really means (more likely). It wasn't mentioned again after that, which is good. Didn't want an argument. But still, I stood up for something I believe in. I'm not exactly walking around with my beloved future "Straight But Not Narrow" t-shirt (I *will* own that someday, someday very, very soon), but still. I'm proud of myself! And hell, gotta start somewhere.

Which Anti-Hero of Musical Theater are You?

Poor unhappy Erik. Well, I'm just obsessive enough to get him. *G*
