I finally got around to visiting the new Barnes and Nobles. We also have a Borders nearby, which I really enjoy, so of course I compared. And in the long run, Borders kicks B&N's ass. The graphic novels, women's studies, gay and lesbian, and history sections are much smaller at B&N than at Borders. The French history section performs the incredible feat of both sucking *and* blowing. I think there were six books, and there may have been two on the French Revolution. As compared to two or three shelves at Borders. I didn't get to the biographies, so I can't report on that. Women's studies and gay and lesbian were each about half the size of the Borders sections, and the graphic novel section may have been 1/4 the size of the Borders section. On the bright side, the sci-fi section is huge, and there are tons of lovely journals. I didn't venture into the AV department, but it looks pretty big. Still, I'll take Borders any day.
