Ok, the LJ updater thingy spontaneously shut down while I was typing up the last entry. Grrr. Take two of "graphic novels I have read recently".

So, I read another Young Justice, tpb, Sins of Youth. Adult DCU heroes get turned into kids, and teenaged DCU heroes get turned into adults. Interesting concept, and good execution, too. Especially in the Peter David issues. I love his work on the Young Justice series. He's got a great tone for the DCU's resident teen super hero team, now that the Titans are all in their twenties, light and fun and full of pop culture references. He does good work in a variety of tones, actually.

I also read volumes two and three of Ultimate Spider-Man. I love Ultimate Spider-Man. I tend to stay away from mainstream Spidey because of things like Venom, Spider Clones, etc. But Ultimate starts at the beginning, so it's a good jumping on point. It's also a great updating, though I'm dying to know where they're going with Gwen Stacey. Truly dying to know. Volume four, anyone?

And I read volume one of CrossGen's The Path. CrossGen is doing a great idea of taking the same basic presence (someone gets marked with a special sign that makes them extremely powerful) and translating it into a multitude of styles. The Path is a samurai story. I imagine it's something like Lone Wolf and Cub, considering that they make a cameo appearance. I'm adding those books to my list now. We'll see if I like them. But I did enjoy The Path, quite a bit. A man forsaking his gods, and vowing to seek revenge on them for fooling him (and a great many others, but he's focused on himself) into believing them all powerful and good. Can't wait to read more. I demand you release more graphic novels, CrossGen!
